Coach Jorge Climent confirmed the split in an interview with Submission Radio, making it clear that the decision wasn’t driven by bad blood.
“We decided, like gentlemen, to go our own way,” Climent said.
Ilia has moved his training fully to Madrid, where he now works out of a private gym in his own home. Meanwhile, the Climent brothers continue to coach fighters from their gym in Calle Burgos.
Jorge made it clear there’s no bitterness.
“It’s sad, of course, but we have no problems with it. Ilia wants to fly solo now — and we respect that.”
He added that he still sees the Topuria brothers like sons and wishes them nothing but success.

With the Climent brothers out of the corner, Ilia’s camp now includes his brother Aleksandre, coach Jesus Gallo, the Ribeiro brothers, and Javi Climent (not related to Jorge and Agustin). That new setup will be tested at UFC 317, where Ilia is set to face former champion Charles Oliveira.
Some fans have raised concerns that this coaching change might disrupt Ilia’s momentum, but Jorge Climent doesn’t think so. In fact, he believes Topuria has what it takes to win — and likely by knockout.
“I think Charlie’s going to try to cross with him, but in the end he’ll go for Jiu-Jitsu. And Ilia has very good takedown defense,” Jorge explained. “His power is out of discussion.”
He even floated the idea of a future match between Ilia and Islam Makhachev at welterweight, saying Topuria could be even stronger without cutting weight.
